Week 10, Term 2

Week 10, Term 2

After a staggered start, it is fantastic to have all our students in back at school and ready to learn. With a very different start to Term 2, it is wonderful to see the friendship and support the children in Room 24 have for one another. They are all working very hard to improve their standard of work, stay on task in their learning groups and achieve the best results they can. The improvements I have witnessed this semester have been very impressive.

Our Learning this Term

In Literacy, we have been using adverbs to describe verbs and make our sentences more exciting. We are also beginning to gain an understanding of antonyms and synonyms. We are continuing to build our knowledge of tricky spelling rules such as y is used at the end of a word to make a long I sound. In all our Big Write, we are focusing on including our descriptive words and including all the correct elements in our recounts.

In Numeracy, we are focusing on understanding mass by measuring and comparing objects. We are also extending our knowledge of graphs by creating tally graphs and picture graphs. At the beginning of the term, we were able to add and subtract with numbers to 10, and now we are able to add and subtract numbers within 20. Each week we continue to work on our mental maths skills and our word number problem strategies.

In Science, we have been learning about light and sound. We explored the difference between natural light and artificial light. We learnt how light can help us see and tested this theory with our STEM projects. To build our knowledge of sound, we investigated pitch and vibration to allow us to understand how sound is created.

In HASS, we explored the differences between the past and present by investigating     how clothing, education and transport has changed over time. While learning about      how clothing has changed over time, we made past and present clothing to dress          foam people.

In Health, Bounce Back Bear has been helping us to learn how to handle bullying, and how to be a good friend.

We also spent some time learning about Western Australia when we returned from our WA Day long weekend.
