Term 4 Week 3

Our Learning this Term

Literacy

This term we are learning to write Persuasive Texts. Persuasive texts present an opinion about a particular topic. We will be focusing on the language of opinion which is used to express a point of view about a topic. So far, we have discussed how people can have different thoughts, feelings and points of view about the same situation. For example, you might think that reading is the best way to spend leisure time. A friend might think that reading is not the best way to spend leisure time, because they prefer playing sports.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we are focusing on the concepts of Money, Addition and Subtraction (with and without regrouping) and Numbers to 100. To assist your child in their learning it is helpful to involve them in every day numeracy operations. Shopping and cooking are great examples of incidental times when simple maths can be used to solve problems.

Dancing

Dancing lessons have now started and we are all enjoying the extra exercise. If you have not paid for these lessons, please make sure you do ASAP so that your child does not miss out.

Health

This term in Health the children are learning Protective Behaviours. Student will learn to judge when they are feeling unsafe and then provides them with strategies to enable them to keep themselves safe.

HASS

We are continuing to focus on Geography in Term 4. We have been learning about Places and Spaces around us. We are able to identify and describe natural, constructed and managed spaces and their features.

Term 3 Week 9

What an amazing and busy Term 3 it has been! We have celebrated Wattle Day, shared our love of reading with book week and participated in a fantastic sports carnival! Congratulations Room 24, you continue to shine as enthusiastic young learners.

Our Learning this Term

In Literacy, we have been constructing compound sentences using conjunctions. We have expanded our knowledge of punctuation and can now recognise commas, speech marks and when to use capital letters in our writing. In all our Big Write, we are focusing on writing narratives that include an orientation paragraph for the beginning that describes the characters and setting with a sizzling start, a middle which features the problem, a series of events and a solution, before concluding with an ending to remember, not just they all lived happily ever after. The End!

In Numeracy, we are focusing on reading a calendar and telling the time. We are also extending our knowledge of chance and events as well as analysing data and creating graphs to represent the data. At the beginning of the term, we were able to add and subtract with numbers within 20, and now we are able to add and subtract numbers to 40 with and without regrouping. Each week we continue to work on our mental maths skills and our word number problem strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems with number bonds and sentences.

In Science, we have been learning about habitats for living things. Over the next few weeks, we are going to design and construct our own habitat for a living creature. Please remember to bring in a  and any special materials you may need to be able to make your habitat.

In HASS, we have explored places and spaces. We are now able to identify natural, constructed and managed features of our environment. We can recognise how spaces are used and why, as well as how we can and need to protect special places within our environment.

In STEM, we are researching, designing and building our own treehouse. We are using our knowledge of ICT to help us research. Our science, engineering and mathematics skills to design and build. Then we will create our narrative about our treehouse once we have completed our build. We have also begun coding using the laptops, and have enjoyed making our lightbot character move and light up squares.
